-
- I can answer these as they apply to Hayes modems at least...

-
- Yes. It has to be turned on and running your voice software.
-

- >2) Are the outgoing/incoming messages recorded on the hard drive or on a
- >chip on the modem?
-
- On the hard drive, this is one of the reasons that the computer has to be
- turned on.

-
- Look at the recently released Hayes Smartcom Message Center Pro. This package
- also comes bundled with the new Hayes ACCURA 288 Office Communications
- Manager. You can get information about both of these on our web page at
- http://www.hayes.com

-
- Voice and data are two very different animals as far as the modem is
- concerned, a voice modem has quite a bit of additional DSP and controller code
- to support the voice functions.

-
- It'll use any of the above. You can play it thru the modem, attach speakers
- to the modem itself or play it back thru your sound card. You can also do
- remote retrieval and play it back thru your telephone handset. Playback thru
- the soundcard is probably the most typical setup.
